I have spent the last few days in a small city called Bonito, where there is the opportunity to do loads of activities - although I have limited myself to the 2 most important.
On my first day I visited the Blue Cave, so called due to the clear blue lake at the bottom. It was very beautiful and lit only by the sunlight going into the cave.
Yesterday was a longer day and the morning was spent at a bird sanctuary with loads of macaws and even some toucans flying round the reserve. The afternoon, however, was the highlight of the trip. Bonito is famous for its clear waters and yesterday afternoon we went on a snorkelling trip down the Rio da Prata and a small spring nearby. There were loads of huge fish to see and the clearness of the water gave you great visibility. We even got to have a snorkel down a small rapid!
Then in the evening I visited the Jiboa Project which deals with snakes and at the end got to see a boa kill and eat a live rat.
Today has mainly been spent at or in the pool at the hostel - playing volleyball and a wander into town for lunch... its a hard life!!
Off to the Pantanal tomorrow for a stay on a ranch with no internet or phone connection...
Love, Ellen xxx
