Hippos noises awoke me this morning. The sound they make is sort of a grunting laugh which makes me giggle first thing. Munching warthogs add to the nature sounds. It is still dark so getting out of the tent we use our headlamps to avoid the droppings deposited everywhere during the night.
Today's drive out of the National Park allowed us to enjoy one last game drive. Unfortunately we had to take the same way out because rains had made the alternate route impassable.
Much of what we saw today along the road looked familiar. We had to drive via Kampala today to drop off a few passengers that end their tour here. Back at the same mall gives us time to sit for a drink while we wait for Nick, our cook, to do groceries.
It was only another hour before we arrive in Jinja. We arrive at Adrift Resort to set up our tents in an overcrowded grass area. Al and I notice a small grassy spot by the cottages and set up there with Jenny and Dominique from our group. Someone came at dinner to give us the information about the optional activities available here.
Jinja is on the shores of Lake Victoria and renowned as the "Source of the Nile". Thrill seekers congregate here for the white water rafting on class 4 and 5 rapids, the bungee jumping into the Nile, quad tours, mountain biking, jet boating, and horse back riding. I, however, had my heart set on volunteering at a local school. She hadn't mentioned this but it was mentioned in our itinerary so she promised to find out. Al, Jen, and Dom decided to try the local golf course. I managed to find out the volunteer option was available and pick up would be at 9:30 am
Early to bed-breakfast at 7am.
