Came across a very pleasant find in Mobile, Bellingrath Gardens, which was not far from our campsite. The gardens were the home of a Coke Bottler in Mobile and given to the city along with an endowment from the sale of coke stock to maintain the facility. We spent most of the day at the gardens, before taking a drive out to Dauphin Island. No signs of passed Hurricanes or oil spill, except that most of the homes looked new. Lots of homes for sale thou.
We were surprised at just how close the oil rigs are to shore and how many we could see. God help them if there is ever an major accident.
We ended the day with a stop at a beach fish shack restaurant, which Jean considered the highlight of the day.
The next day it was off to the Battleship Alabama. We spent the entire day going through the ship and sub on display. We have gone through several naval displays and this was by far the most complete. Jean is really into all things military and read every plaque and watched every movie.
When we got home there was an email from our old neighbor, Joe Kline, suggesting we not miss the Naval Aviation Museum in Pensacola, so we have added Pensacola to our stops.
