Last stop on the tour! You can imagine our joy as we pulled into our hotel street well after 11pm, and the grumpy German taxi driver told us it was “not a nice hotel, in not a nice area”. This while the red lights of the “Sex Kino” flashed across the streets, as well as the police car lights as they sorted out a few brawls in the streets. Fabulous. Thankfully the driver meant to say it was a nice hotel in a bad district, so we were pretty happy to find we had a very nice room in a nice modern hotel! We close our windows at night to cut out the sound of the druggies and pimps screaming at each other. Hmmmm.
Anyway, all was well in the morning, and we filled the last day of our holiday with a little idle wandering of cobbled streets, a couple of ancient churches, and then the inevitable collapse into a coffee house for pflumkuchen, coffee and the usual very tart German service. We have done full circle on our holiday....back to the unsmiling Germans after weeks of happy Spaniards! Anyway, a little shopping, a beer and frankfurter later, we were feeling pretty good. We went to a traditional apfelwein (apple wine) cellar to join what felt like a hundred other people, mostly locals surprisingly, for a few kilos of roast pork on the bone (a shoulder and a knuckle). We squeezed in apfel strudel to make sure we reached the plane with our maximum weight limit well utilised!!
