Wine Tour #1 - the barrels room. One of my favourites with...
Wine Tour #1 - the buy me room
Wine Tour #2 - The organic winery - vineyard
Wine Tour #2 - The organic winery - Alpaca's for the manure
Wine Tour #3 - The wine and eating experience
Today was a sad day as it was our last day in Chile. After spending 30 days touring this beautiful country side, meeting nice people and experiencing a culture we will not soon forget, it is time to get back to reality.
This morning started off with a bang as we experienced our first real earthquake while still in the hotel room. Everything was shaking and it seemed to last for quite a while. The earthquake was centered just off shore from Valparaiso and register 4.9. You get a little nervous when the earthquake hits and you realize your hotel is perched high up on a cliff, but then realize this place is probably a hundred years old and if it hasn't fallen down yet it must be built pretty good.
We then proceed with our final planned tour of the trip. Actually it was 3 tours, as we were met by Michael our wine connoisseur who picked up at the hotel and brought around the Casablanca Valley for 3 separate wine tastings tours. Each vineyard was very different and each tour touched on something new. What they did have in common was they each allowed us to try 4 glasses of their local wine (3 x 4 = 12 glasses). Sounded like fun at the time, now we see it might have been a little too much of a good thing. We did get to see a boutique style vineyard that showed us the whole process and the equipment used. An organic vineyard that uses alpaca manure for fertilizer, chickens to eat the bugs. And finally a vineyard that included a 6 course lunch paired with a variety of wines. At the end of the tour Michael was nice enough to drive us to the Santiago airport where we could catch our flight back to Canada.
