| This was one of the landmarks which guided the wagon trains in the right direction after their great 600 mile trek over the great plains toward the Rocky Mountains. Apparently there are all kinds of names, dates and personal information scratched into the rock on Chimney Rock as well. The Native Americans also left their hieroglyphics on these outcroppings. We were not allowed access to the rock...it is being protected from further damage and unnecessary erosion. |
