Where in the world is Becky Vaughan? travel blog

Well got up in the morning and went for breakfast $20 for 4 pancakes and an Orange Juice - daylight robbery. Having said that I could only eat 2 - so should have gone for the mini stack - rookie mistake. Given it was my first breakfast in the city as breakfast was included at hostel I will live in learn. Anyway my intention was to trek down with Rich to the Liberty boat area then chill in Starbucks whilst he went on the trip but the queue was ridiculous and when his friends turned up they wer going to wait in the 3 hour queue to get I decided I needed to help (being a now well travelled person ;D) I knew there were other boat trips that just didn't stop on the island so went and found one with not too long a queue. We had to walk some way to get to the boat and there were a lot of people so I went on a 'teacher' stomp to get to the front of the crowd because having already been on the boats I knew if we didn't get a good seat we would not be able to see anything. Rich and his friends (can't remember names oops) thought this was hilarious. When we got to the boat they let people through a few at the time and we lined up. Because I was at the front the guy said 'are you on your own' I replied 'no there are 3 more back there somewhere' so he said ' call them then so they can get on with you' and we got on right at the front with the choice of anywhere on the boat - good job by me I think. The boat was great and we got some very different views of Manhattan to what I had seen including a close up of Brooklyn bridge so it was definitely worth doing. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience, whilst it great wandering around alone it is good to do things with people too. After the boat I headed back up town whilst Rich went off to do Top of the Rock. Chilled, found out where the party was we were going to and got back to the hotel. Turns out the party was only a few block away which was a bonus.

Got ready for the party - actually put heels on the for the first time in a while (heels that have now gone back with Rich :C) and headed out - I felt very Carrie Bradshaw. We went into a very nice bar and I had some mini gourmet burgers and a citrus vodka and sprite (not lemonade because they don't have lemonade!!) It is worth noting that whilst the drinks were stupidly expensive they free pour in the New York, it's great but as I had only been drinking beer took me a little while to aclimatise. Thought I was going to be pissed very quickly! Left the bar and went to the party which was at what I can only describe as a very chic/trendy bar - again Carrie eat your heart out. Went in and had more free pour drinks ;D. Found the person whose party it was Swati (who has to be one of the nicest (and also prettiest) people I have ever met). Spent the rest of the night drinking a lot of alcohol, and champagne courtesy of Rich and having a good old dance. I think it got to about 3am and I decided to go as I was beginning to fade and felt that a few more drinks and I would need carrying and Rich was most certainly at this point not in a state to be carrying me. Wandered back to the hotel (there was a lot of swaying involved but no bouncing off cars so I wasn't that bad) and passed out. Did not hear Rich come in but was very impressed that he found his way as his sense of direction is pants.
