Entry into the Pompei Village

Uh oh looks like it's Gunna rain

Tiled floor

Ancient bath

Beautiful courtyard

Amphitheatre

Today I fulfilled a lifelong ambition by visiting Pompei. I don't know why but it's a story I have been fascinated with since I was a child

Unfortunately the weather Gods weren't smiling on us and it was quite windy and cold and then it turned to rain then heavy rain so we didn't get the best out of the day. Even so I think it was still worth the trip.  Although it was a bit disappointing that the plaster casts of the people who died during the eruption weren't there but apparently are in a museum in Naples

We had to catch two trains one to Naples then one to Pompei. It is quite easy to use the ticket vending machines - they start with a language option and then you choose your destination and date and time of trip. After our experience today I am much more relaxed about the train trips to Assisi and Florence we have planned.

While the Eurostar train to Naples was very staid the local train to Pompei was chaotic to say the least. All the Italians talk ten to the dozen either to each other or on their mobiles
