Today we visited the Laguna de Chaxa part of the Los Flamencos National park. Also got up close with the volcanoes. High enough up in elevation that there was still snow on the ground in places.

First stop was at one of the largest salt lakes or salt flats in Chile since there is not much water. Here we got to see Chilean Flamingos (which have the pink tails) and the Andee's Flamingos (which have the black tails).

We then visited the Lagunas Miscanti and Miniques. There was a pretty blue green colour with a white salty rings. Both of these lagoons very high up in the Andee's. The animals, vegetation and birds around these lakes was very unique. We saw a small herd of vicuñas, one of two wild South American camelids as well as tagua cornuda that had a duck like appearance. There was also some very colourful vegetation next to some hot springs that flowed into the lakes.

Lots of history in the small towns on the way to the national parks. They managed to make an existence in rough terrains. Numerous terrace gardens/farms with stone walls from the volcanic rocks.

We did see Llamas in the wild as well as on the streets in the small towns.
