As we leave here and head towards Theodore Roosevelt NP (north unit) we hit Williston and 16 miles of construction, dirt, and large trucks and 25mph traffic. This area is the center of the oil, coal and electric power industry in this state. There are make shift housing areas, RV parks and building going on everywhere and we begin to see oil pumps in the fields
Theodore Roosevelt NP. This is the north unit of the park; we visited the south unit in 2007. We get my stamp, pick up trail medallions and head out to tour the park. Only 7 of the 14 miles are open due to landslides this past summer. We do manage to see 3 of the nearly 300 bison in the park and one mule deer. This area is an extension of the badlands in Montana and is also like the ones in South Dakota.
