Bright and early Monday morning we put the Phaeton back in to the breeze heading south with our first stop in Charlottesville, Virginia with the intention of visiting Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello. We are staying at The Piney Mountain Rv Resort about fifteen miles from Charlottesville and it’s a pretty nice park.
Today we went to see Monticello and Michie Tavern that is on the road to Monticello. We went on the 11:30 tour and the guide was very informative. We couldn’t believe the amount of people that was there this time of year and this early in the week.
The tour only includes the first floor of the house and then your free to tour the grounds and basement on your own. I thought the ticket price was a bit high at $22 dollars a head but it’s a non profit organization and it was a pretty good tour so what the hey. It’s pretty amazing what all Mr. Jefferson accomplished in his life. You can read up on Mr. Jefferson at this site. http://www.monticello.org/site/jefferson/brief-biography-thomas-jefferson
After we spent three hours on the property we were both thinking about putting the feed bag on and we stopped in at the café by the visitors center but nothing looked all that wonderful so we decided to check out Michie Tavern and see if they had any eats. On the way back to the Jeep I talked to a guy about the tavern and he said they had real good food but pricey. He was right on both accounts. The meal was a old fashion style buffet.
We enjoyed our meal and then walked around the shops and then headed into town to find the local Elk’s club. I was thinking about maybe taking the coach over there and spend a night there but after looking the parking area over I decided to pass because it was just to tight for our size coach.
We’ve been having a problem with our front slideout not wanting to stay locked in when traveling and since we haven’t been close to any service centers I’ve come up with a way to keep in locked in position but I needed a 2x2 so we went looking for a Lowe’s and now It think it will work until I get to Florida and have the slide looked at by a Tiffin Dealer.
We’re most likely going to MT Airy, NC for a few day’s but not sure as of yet. We received an offer from Family Motor Coach to spend a free week in an RV Resort at Lake Greenwood in Greenwood, SC. Yeah, I know they want to sell us a lot but I’m thinking I’ll never be able to spend a week in a high dollar resort like this anyway so I could sat there and listen to the pitch for a couple hours…..and be High On The Hog for at least one week.
That’s about it for now, it’s good to be back on the road. Mind Your Manners.
