Beer and Tapas tour 2011 travel blog

We spent 3 days in Barcelona and though it wasn't nearly enough to do this unique city justice we had lots of fun. We'd primarily gone to see Gaudi's wonderful architecture and that certainly was a highlight for me. We also strolled along La Rambla a very popular boulevard bursting with tourists, buskers and street stalls. We got lost in the dark narrow streets of the 15th century Barri Gotic and had a sensory explosion in the very busy Mercat dela Boqueria, said to be one of the best stocked and colourful markets in Europe. Some of the produce was a little to fresh and lifelike for me with heads and feet still attached. I do like to eat meat but I don't necessarily like to see it smiling back at me.

Our last night in Spain was spent at a hotel near the airport as we had an early flight to Singapore in the morning. Our wake up call didn't eventuate but we woke up on time and watched as the sun rose over Barcelona. At the check in we were bewildered to see we were the only ones there and asked if we were early and were told we were late! Our last meal in Spain was breakfast at the airport McDonalds. The coffee was really good and the orange juice freshly squeezed, which was a very nice touch. Muchas Grazias Spain for a wonderful time.......
