Bionic Babe - Adventures in Europe- 2011 travel blog

Didn’t bother to eat the breakfast offered- It was more of the same – breads, eggs & pork cold cuts. Trying not to overload the gluten tolerance in my system. I don’t get sick from eating breads over here like I do in Arizona. But I don’t want to push it.

The bus took us to Verona. We were given less than 2 hours to explore the Old Town, but the bus dropped us off 20 minutes away by foot. Made it into the Old Town – past the overly expensive fashionista ships of Givenchy, Prada, Gucchi & so on. The guide took us to Juliet’s Balcony – a tourist trap created a couple of hundred years ago. First of all – Juliet was a fictitious character & could not have had a balcony, secondly – it was in a crappy location – everyone in the villa would’ve known what was going on and kicked Romeo to the curb. The movie- Letters to Juliet got it wrong- so wrong… people graffiti their requests to Juliet on the wall. The area looks cheap & crappy… I refused to partake of such nonsense and left the group to find the rest room. It took 20 minutes to find the public restroom & I had to pay .70 euros- about $1.25 to use it.

I found some great artwork – but the artist refused to negotiate a better price, even after 15 minutes of haggling. So I left to get back to the bus. Picked up some fries from McDonalds & made it back to the bus on time.

The bus stopped at a Rest Area for lunch – everything was triple the cost it was at the supermarket & twice what you’d pay at an normal eating establishment. They weren’t serving anything decent so I raided my stash of chocolate & kashi bars.
