Jude and Pete - Greek Sailing Adventure & Absolute Turkey 2011 travel blog

Big day today. Time to say farewell to Greece and hello to Turkey. If we enjoy Turkey half as much as we enjoyed our time in Greece, particularly the islands, we are in for a great time.

We woke early and Pete went to source our morning coffee while I wrote up some more journal. We packed up and went out for some breakfast, another drink and another walk before coming back in time for our lift to the airport. Goodbye Pension Petros!

The airport is quite small so we checked in and waited in the upstairs departure lounge along with lots of other people. Interestingly, they bus you to your plane (even though the plane is only about 50 metres away). Not sure of the reason, maybe they lost a few passengers.

We were scarcely in the air and it was time to land...a bit like a Pt Lincoln to Adelaide flight. Once again, buses to take us to the terminal...I can see why this time, it was a long way. Our next flight was due to leave in about an hour so we did the passport control and security thing and guess who had their sunscreen in their bag - over 100mls so, goodbye sunscreen.

When it was almost time to board, there was an announcement that our flight had been delayed by 40 minutes due to the air traffic controllers 'go slow'. They are not happy with the government's austerity measures. As it turned out, we were 2 hours late leaving and for some reason, our flight seemed to be the only outbound flight affect - maybe because the Greeks don't seem to like the Turks. There were some very agitated passengers....they put on quite a floor show for us. Passengers screaming, ground crew screaming. I videoed some of it but I don't think I got the best bits. People cheered when the buses arrived to take us to the plane.

A great way to say goodbye to Greece!
