Had a quick breakfast and a lovely drive to and across the Mississippi River. We met our good friends Bob and Janet in Peru at a truck stop. They drove out from Oak Park (Chicago) for this visit – we had not seen each other for at least 8 years, and it was great to reconnect. We talked for a LONG time!
Then we turned south into very familiar country – a land of rolling corn fields and beans, dotted with small towns gathered around a county cooperative grain elevator and a church. We drove through Benson, Roanoke and finally into Metamora, where John’ mother lives. The assisted living complex had set up cones for us to park the rig for 2 nights and hook to their electricity. It was perfect.
Enjoyed a great visit with Mom and pizza for dinner. Then we found our way to another set of friends, Gary and Sue, who had moved to West Virginia for several years, and again, we had not seen them for almost 8 years. They have moved back to Illinois and are in the process of rehabing their new house. We spent the entire evening touring their new home and catching up. What great fun!
