It was close to a five hour drive from Buena Vista to Durango in southwest Colorado. This is the famed four corners area(4 states meet,Utah,Colorado,New Mexico and Arizona). We drove first over Poncho Pass and then over the ten mile long spectacular Wolf Pass in the San Juan Mountains. The Rio Grande River runs through this area and provides great agricultural lands with essential water. The summit is 10857 and utilizes a tunnel. The scenery is loaded with sheer cliffs of spectacular rocks and decorated with abundant flora. Pagosa Springs,a known hot springs area, lies at the western base of the pass. We arrived in Durango and found Alpen Rose RV Park nestled in the mountain wall on the pass road from Durango to Silverton. The historic Durango Silverton Railroad whistle mourns its call in the distance as the old narrow gauge steam train chugs its way through the canyon. We are beautifully located beneath large cottonwood trees.
