M&H

Oh what a day we have had! After a hearty breakfast here we went to the Guggenheim. Unai, our guide is absolutely fabulous. Besides knowing the history of the building he explained how Gehry designed it to make it a real part of the city; both architecturally and historically. Then when we got to the exhibits he would tell us about the artist as well as the techniques behind the production of the artwork. I'm not a lover of modern art, but I sure learned a lot.

Next we went to the old section of Bilbao. Lots of narrow streets, lots of shops - a great market that sold everything from watermelon to octopus, and tons of people.

We went with M & M to the Basque Museum which told a lot about the culture of this area.

From there we went along the river to the funicular which took us high above the city. It is amazing how tightly packed Bilbao is.

I have no idea why the pictures are coming out upside down - when I check the site they are fine - oh well! Most of my pictures are on my camera - I'll have to try to be better about using the iPod.
