Wish we had a photo to show you how nervous and exhausted we were when we set off for the airport on the evening of 8th December! All had been crazy, and poor ole Paul had spent most of the last week in London at work and so was unable to do all the bits and pieces for the trip that he had needed to do. So, not alot of sleep but a fair amount of emotion when we had to say goodbye to the Holloways!

Jamie took us to the airport and my best bud Kola turned up too, to see us off. Check in queue was hugely long and tiring and once sorted, we sat down and had a brief dins with the guys. Saying goodby wasn't too difficult on my part (no offense Kola!) as I suppose I had bid my family goodbye a good week or so before and also, the whole thing didn't really compute (and Kola is great at keeping everyone chipper so...). But Paul had had an emotional evening, saying goodbye to sis and parents in Putney and then Jamie at the airport - plus being incredibly tired. So, all got to him a bit. The walk through into departures was a real "this is it" event, no turning back now...

Everything settled down a little then, we got water and coffee - had a wonder around the duty free and just...chilled. We were then eager to get on the aeroplane and sleep. Boarding was quick and easy and the seats comfortable, we were lucky enough to be next to a mature couple who were very friendly as well as having some interesting stories to tell - I think they were Christian Aid people who travelled to trouble torn countries to help out (i.e. Kosovo, etc.). They were great adventurers and very inspiring.

Paul was lucky enough to sleep well on the plane, but I had an awful time. I had been feeling rather unwell and so flitted in and out of snoozing alternating between hot and cold sweats...I ended up watching almost every film the flight entertainment had to offer!!

We arrived at Bangkok airport, and waited for the transfer to Ko Samui. A funny little plane appeared which made me pretty nervous but Paul was enjoying every minute! The flight was comfortable if little delayed (Dad...ThisIsThailand!!). When landing on the island, it was late evening. The air was tropical and warm, the airport an hysterical little area with timber check in and transfer buses with the wrong island name written down the side of them! Really entertaining and very welcoming by fairylights!

Then it was into a taxi and off to our resort. As soon as we saw our cabin, 12 metres from the ocean, we got a beer and stood on the terrace area watching the waves in the moonlight and breathing deeply of the musky warm air. Hmmmmm... now we were free...
