Adventures in France travel blog

If it's Friday, it must be Paris. We are in the Marais area of Paris, in the middle of a hopping section of town. We are on the 4th floor, 5th floor by American standards, in a little hotel with the tiniest, slowest elevator. The staircase wraps around the elevator shaft and climbs round & round and up & up! We took the elevator with our luggage - that is, I took the elevator with our luggage, but we will now take the steps both for exercise and time savings!

We arrived at our hotel at 2:00 so we did a bit of wandering to get oriented. We are not far from Notre Dame, so we started out there, then took a boat up to the Eiffel Tower and back. In spite of it being September, there are plenty of tourists here. We then wandered around the Marais a bit to see if we could find a recommended restaurant for dinner.

Found the restaurant, got a reservation and returned at the appointed hour for a very nice meal. We have decided that the fifth floor walk-up is a good compromise so that we can eat what we want! (not so much for the calories we burn hiking to our room, but for the fact that we've sacrificed some creature comforts to save some money!) After a walk to the Seine to see the lights of Paris at night, we stopped at the sidewalk cafe below our hotel for a little dessert for Chuck and a little glass of wine for me. It's a really good thing that we settled for this hotel...hmmmm!
