Dinner at Bentleys with Carol and Jim

Saturday, September 17 - London

Today, rested and ready to see London we headed to Starbucks for coffee and a breakfast sandwich. Right across the street from Starbucks, we eyed the Big Bus tour, so off we went to board the Big Bus. We sat on the bus for three hours seeing all the sights of London. The traffic was really heavy today and the normal two hour round trip took three hours. There is so much construction going on here due to the Olympics here next July and August. We were told there will not be any construction allowed on the streets after the first of the year so they are working 24-7 to get it all completed. Also, many of the monuments are covered in scaffolding for cleaning and repairs in preparation for the big event, which was disappointing. We got off the bus at the Hard Rock Café thinking this would be a good lunch place, however, it was so crowded we chose an alternate. I even refrained from purchasing a London Hard Rock t-shirt because they looked like the same shirts they had in Rome and Malta only with London written on it. Right behind the Hard Rock we found a pub to have lunch at which of course ended up being fish and chips - probably the worst I have ever had. I was told that fish and chips is very good here and that I should give it another chance.

After a nap, we awoke to a little rain shower. We met up with friends Carol and Jim from Maui - Jim is from London and travels here a lot on business. I was so glad to see familiar faces and someone to explain the London lifestyle to me. The rain resulted in us taking a cab to dinner. This was quite exciting for me as I had been seeing these cute little black cabs that I’ve heard so much about. We arrived at Bentley’s Oyster Bar. . . . Had a delicious dinner and fabulous time . . .
