Caserta was found by accident on google earth. We were checking from above to find a place about 2 hours south of Rome for our first night and saw what looked like an airport. On closer inspection with the use of Google we saw it was a 1.5 Kilometre waterway and gardens. It looked like a good place to choose.
We spent 3 nights and found that we had booked only 100 metres from the garden, which was indeed huge. We hired bikes to ride its length.
The garden is part of a palace with fountains all the way up the water way. First thing we noticed was the big difference to fountains in Russia and Prague. They had not been restored in the same way, probably not changed for centuries.
We had a great dinner in Caserta. We arrived at 7pm to be told to come back at 8pm and still found we were alone for the first 30 minutes, by the time e finished the place was packed. We haven't learnt to be very Italian yet.
