Sorry its late but i was not connected to the outside world yesterday (18th). But here we go...
We woke up to the sights & sounds of kids television once again. The people must be running around on happy pills as they are full of smiles from the moment you wake up till the moment you turn them off. Guess it's good practice for us. And the boys seem to love it so that's the most important thing.Colleen also getting a little bit of the flu so hoping it goes away quickly. Just a release after the last 3 weeks of chaos.
Today we go down south for a week to Dunsborough. This is into the area which is a cross between the Midlands, Stellenbosch wine route and margate! Looking forward to it but have to try and pack a weeks clothes into the little back pack as we have limited space for 6 of us in the car. Harder than packing for us was packing for the boys. Have a real respect for the patience of parents as they have to organize themselves and kids all at the same time.... What are we getting ourselves into?
So eventually we get into the first bus (kia 7 seater)of our trip, with the kids DVD player strapped to my headrest!!! & get on the road. We make a quick stop at a Muzz Buzz which is a drive through takeaway coffee and donut shop. A couple of flat whites/cappuccinos/milkshake and some ham and cheese croissants (Padkos!) and we are on our way.
Along the way a number of events took place:
1. We passed a massive Ikea which we resolve to definitely come back to and explore
2. Zach managed to get his hands on a full bowl of chips and so generously re-distributed throughout the four corners of the car! :)
3. A number of car games from our childhood were played eagerly by all including: I Spy, spot the red car, car cricket, spot the motorbike which Andy ended up winning as he spotted the only motorbike.
4. Throughout the 3/4 hour trip the weather changed drastically from hot to cold to major storm and back again in 5 minute cycles.
5. Alex & Zach took it in turns to sleep/cry which thankfully they chose to do at alternate times much to our relief. Thanks little Cuzins!
6. Learned that a lot of towns end in the word up, which means "by the water" eg. Nannup, Yellingup etc.
7. Picked up a new saying for nose picking. Instead of digging for diamonds(2000 and late), it's looking for bats in the cave! Ha ha. We love it!
Eventually we arrived at our quaint holiday home for the next week at no. 10 Smith St. Dunsborough. On inspection, much to his delight and Caths concern, Alex finds out that they have a set of bunk beds to share and claimed the top one immediately. It then took only 2 min of us not watching for Zach to climb up to the top and move across from the bed to the cupboard were he sat on top staring at us. Very funny & cute.
After unpacking Andy realized that he had forgotten his remote for his hard drive which had all the movies tv etc on including a download from the previous night of the Bokke vs Fiji which we were meant to watch that night. In his angered state he showed remarkable composure to quietly walk outside and go chop wood for the fire. Good luck to the people trying to free that axe from the stump next time!
We then all took a walk down to the beach where we saw the house my parents stayed in when they came here a few years ago. We took shelter under a tree as the rain fell for about 5 min and then we kicked around and Aussie Rules Football together on the beach. A little girl on the beach approached Zach with keen interest but he was having none of it. He just wanted the ball. We'll see how long that lasts! But my cuz played it cool and even had her coming back to say bye before she left, to which he ignored her and went to play with dad on the rocks! We then decided to head home as the rain was coming and started off on a run. On the way we were racing Alex and he bit the tar! Don't run in crocs! He was ok and brushed it off in about 2 min after a hug and kiss from mom.
Andy and I then went out to the shops before they closed to get some food for dinner and on the way I experienced my first drive through bottle store! So much for don't drink and drive! When we got back to the house Andy's sister Fiona was at the house with her 2 kids Ben & Lucy and a friend of there's Jai. This kid was awesome. Very well mannered, patient and always encouraging those around him. Hope our kids turn out like that.
After a dinner of spaghetti bolognaise Andy spent hours trailing the Internet for a way to use his hard drive without the remote. Eventually he came up with the idea of using his cellphone to create a wifi hotspot, connect the iPad and then downlaoad an app on the iPad which would act as a remote for the hard drive. Very Macgyver of the digital age. Hence Macgyver 2.0! One catch.... After doing all that and downloading the app, you require the remote to link the hard drive to the iPad to use the iPad as a remote! More wood chopping for Andy! He resolves he is not beaten but merely bruised and will continue the fight tomorrow! hope it works, really want to watch the Bokke!
After dinner we had some desert of Andy's called rocky road which he had made for Zachs party but then left it in the fridge at home. It's basically bits of marshmallow, chewy gum type sweets with melted chocolate poured over. Dangerously addictive and heart foundation approved! Lauren step away from the chocolate! Not to be made without andy's supervision!
So no Bokke and a belly ache, off to bed it was. Colleen had heard Fiona say Belly-Up and thought it meant full belly. So from now on I am using that as my maagies vol oogies toe comment!
Ps. Got to use my Longjohns for the 1st time. Passion killer? More like Fire starters!
Nite nite.
Love us.
