As you can see be our new location, we have been doing a little misdirection on our journal entries recently. We wanted to surprise friends at RedRock RV Park in Island Park, Idaho with an unannounced arrival and many of those folks read our journal.
So, we pulled up our landing legs in Port Orford, Oregon early this morning and headed east to Sisters, which is located on the east side of the Cascade Mountains of Oregon. It was a beautiful day for a drive and traffic was exceptionally light the entire way.
If there was a downside at all, it was all the smoke from wildfires along the crest of the mountains that had descended upon our camping location in Sisters. It was thick, rotten smelling and made breathing just a little difficult. An afternoon temperature of 92 degrees added to the misery factor somewhat, but we were happy to be back on the road regardless.
We pulled into the Sisters/Bend Gardens RV Resort late in the afternoon and kept our setup to a minimum to allow an early morning departure further to the east. The resort is absolutely beautiful with lush green grass, tasteful landscaping and flower gardens throughout. Juanita described the bathroom as “opulent”.
At nearly $47 for the one night visit, this park would be unsuitable for a longer visit on our part. The owners have really made improvements since taking the place over from KOA, however, and many travelers would find this an oasis. The grounds were immaculate and all facilities top notch.
Abbey wasn’t happy with the dry dirt dog walks around the park and highway noise along adjacent Highway 20 was loud with many trucks passing during overnight hours. Because of the smoke, we kept our windows closed and were not especially bothered by the traffic noise.
We plan to leave early tomorrow for the long drive to Caldwell in Idaho where we will meet up with friends Fred and Helen for dinner.
Check back for another entry tomorrow.........................
