|Day #4, Monday, September 12th
The morning got off to a leisurely start. No hurry / no schedule.
We departed the RV Park in Reno at 11:00am. Not a big fan, but it was just a place to stay in route to the “real” vacation, which started today.
We headed North on Hwy 395 and had about 110 miles to go to our destination.
At mile marker 24 we spotted cow patties! Ok, there wasn’t much to see in the beginning, but it got better. Today, the highest elevation we reached was about 6,000 ft. yesterday it was 8,036 ft. The hills weren’t too bad today, but we had some 6-7% grades downhill.
We passed through Susanville around 1pm (a cute little town) and had to stop for highway construction. They were paving one side of the Highway and allowed traffic in only one direction at a time. We pulled to the side of the road and had lunch and walked the dog.
Back on the road, we saw some beautiful scenery and lots of winding roads thru the tall pines.
Motor cyclists and (supposedly Motor Home Drivers) have a tradition of acknowledging a fellow traveler with a wave as they passed in opposite directions. Well today, I achieved a high point in my RVing experience; I actually got a wave with more than one finger! Barb and I cheered and the dog barked as she didn’t know what was going on. Oh well, the next 20 ignored me as usual….but I will prevail.
We arrived at our RV resort (Lassen KOA RV Resort) which I had booked for two nights. We picked the most secluded spot in the back of the park. It is so-o-o-o peaceful. This is the first time we could actually sit outside with the Canopy extended, have a glass of wine and listen to some quiet music. We have a fire pit and a picnic table (breakfast in the morning), as well as full hook-ups. We enjoyed the silence for about an hour and a half and took a walk around the park with Bridget to take some home movies and photos. The park is immaculate and has many amenities. Wish you all could be here!
We came inside and fixed dinner. Barb is reading while I am writing this. I don’t know if it will get out tonight as both Cell and Internet are extremely spotty.
Well it’s about 8:40 and time to wrap this up. It just started to rain and thunder. The angels are dancing on our roof!
More to follow.
