The Diamond Princess

Leaving the Port of Whittier

We weren’t quite so rushed this morning…bags had to be out and tagged for the ship by 8:30, but we didn’t have to leave until 11:00. After breakfast, we all gathered about 10:30 out front of the lodge for a group picture. We thought the beauty of the Kenai Peninsula was a perfect back drop for a group picture. After boarding the bus, we were on our way to Whittier where the Diamond Princess was waiting. We made a short stop at the Portage Glacier Visitor’s Center, then we were back on the road. We arrived at the cruise ship port in Whittier about 1:00 and started the boarding process. It didn’t take too terribly long to get everyone checked in and on board. We all met for dinner in the International Dining room, our assigned dining room for dinner each night. Shortly after dinner, it was time for the required emergency drill, then it was time for the sail away. Once clear of the berth, we’ll be making our way through Prince William Sound before entering the Gulf of Alaska. We’ll be entering College Fjord in the wee hours of the morning, existing around sunrise. Everyone has been told to try and step out onto their balcony or up on deck for some awesome scenery. We’re heading to Yakutat Bay and the Hubbard Glacier to arrive about 3:00 tomorrow.
