September 1 – Day 70- Argentia NFL – Whitbourne (10th and last province of the tour!)

K’s 60

Time 2h 47m

Average speed: 21.45k/H

T to d 7618 k

As promised the ferry docked on time at 3:30 pm in Argentia after a very nice quiet sail from Cape Breton. Once the ship had docked we had to collect our bikes from the tour van and saddle up for the relatively short ride to dinner and our overnight stop.

The complication continued to be the chain on Terri’s bike which was skipping badly. The ride out of Argentia has a number of long and relatively steep hills so we worried about the chain breaking if too much pressure was put on it. This kept our speed a bit slower than we would have ridden this section. However we made our dinner stop at a church hall where the tour operator had arranged a dinner served by a ladies church group. Not the usual “potluck” but instead store bought prepared soup, chilie, mac & cheese etc. Not really great but it did tied us over. Then with our stomachs full we had to get back on the bikes for a 5 k ride to a local arena where we put out our air mattresses and sleeping bags to bed down for the night. Again not a great way to spend the last night on the road for the tour but it was a roof over our heads on a cool, damp night.
