We left Port Angeles after a little trouble getting one of our jack up - not the first time on this trip. Another thing to add to the fix-it list for when we get back to Jax.
We drove for 227 miles - about 6 hours with an hour stop for lunch. We'd called ahead for a 2 night reservation but as we pulled into the campground, the owner came out of the office to greet us. She called me by name and explained that there had been a water main break and we'd have to use our on-board water if we stayed here. Not a problem we said and went ahead and checked in.
Astoria has lots of places to visit and the owner felt she had to tell us about all of them. Astoria is the oldest permanent settlement west of the Rockies and is nestled against the hills along the Columbia River. It's numerous Victorian homes overlook the town named for the early fur trader, John Jacob Astor. There are more buildings on the National Historic Register per square foot than anywhere else in Oregon.
