Day 51

What a museum! It’s a large museum, kind of a mini Smithsonian, that has 5 parts. We’re doing it is two days. Every part has static, multimedia, and interactive displays – something to meet the needs of many different people styles.

There is, of course the Buffalo Bill Museum with all his memorabilia, family pictures, home furnishings, clothes and Wild West Show videos. There are a lot of cowboy artifacts: saddles, bridles, cowboy clothes, hats (note Jim’s picture as Tom Mixe). There are wagons, chuck wagons, carriages, and anything else related to cowboys, horse riding, and cattle ranching. We listened to a short talk by one of the docents about the history and use of the chuck wagon. There is also a section for research in primary documents about the West and the settling of the West. They had a neat audio presentation where we could select a gun fighter and hear a 1st person reading about the gun fighter/outlaw including one woman-Belle Starr.
