After a bit of a sleep-in to recover from our exciting adventure, we ventured down to the beach in Playa del Carmen to catch some sun and take in the sights. Running parallel to the beach is a tourista strip full of all kinds of interesting shops, bars and resturants; where we ran into some Maya in full ceremonial dress, tame new-world monkeys, and innumerable bottles of tequilla.
We made our way down to the georgous beach (bathtub warm water and sand so blindingly white that it feels like you´re standing in a postcard) and played in the waves. As the sun set and the heat of the day cooled, we found a great restaurant on the strip called Yaxchá, one of Playa´s best restaurants. Featuring "authentic Mayan cuisine" and using only indigenous igredients (what the Mayans would have had), it was a really cool meal!
After our fabulous meal, we went back to our hotel where we met our group of companions, a total of 9 (including us), plus our guide. There´s a nice mix of guys and girls, professions and nationalities (Canadian, American, Aussie, Kiwi and UK) that the conversations are pretty diverse and interesting! We had a quick briefing on our tour (during happy hour in our hotel, at the swim-up bar) before heading down the block to El Fugón for an athentic, traditional Mexican meal - soooo many quesadillas!!
Not sure what we´re up to tomorrow, but it looks pretty strongly like the concensus is Tulúm. Will keep you posted! Loads of love!
