Having made the decision to stay where we are through the first weekend of October for the “Rumble On The Gulf,” a great car show with international entries…combined with a crashed computer, there hasn’t been much to add to the journal. Since we live in the coach, many days find Charlie and me staying home working on little problems that often pop up in any home environment, planning our budget, working on writing projects or whatever one does in their homes on any normal day.
Tropical Storm Lee caused great anticipation and worry for us. Park owners assured me if they thought it was going to be catastrophic, they would be the first to alert everyone and evacuate the area. Nonetheless, as the coach swayed in the wind, watched water rise around it and experienced a brief power outage, I stowed everything in anticipation for a quick departure. Problem with that we would have to drive hundreds of miles to escape the wrath of Lee. Not to mention driving through the stuff…
Fact is, only one camper departed and that could easily have been coincidence. Their time here might have been scheduled to end on Labor Day weekend. A half dozen “Fish Camp” trailers were brought in from the coast and parked here as a safe haven from the rising tidewaters. And resilient vacationers still came in with their kids, dogs, grandmas, grills, and all their plans for a fun holiday weekend. I watched their kids enjoy ‘my’ swimming pool until late last night in the wind and the rain.
The worst seems to be over a couple of days earlier than planned. Sun’s out. The sky is clearing. It is a pleasant 81 degrees with relatively low humidity. My windows are open, the stereo is playing and I sit here taking care of my computer chores. We weathered the storm. “Life is good.”
After the big car show, we will once again hit the road but the journey for now is on hold. Reviewing my finances along with the volatile stock market has forced me to return to central Texas where we will winter near Austin. Even with high unemployment reports from the capitol, hopefully I will find a good job to raise some funds for returning to my travels next spring or summer!
Unless I get some great photos to share, I won’t be updating the journal on a regular basis however in my last entry I included an address for a new blog I have started that anyone is welcome to peruse and comment upon.
