Penny and Bob's Great Adventure 2011 travel blog

8/26/11

Got an early start today (8:20 a.m.) to try to beat everyone evacuating from Beach Haven and the Jersey Shore ahead of Hurricane Irene. Stopped at one produce stand on the way and then the rest was clear sailing back to Quakertown where we arrived at 10:51 after driving 105 miles. Dropped Bob at the Q-Mart and I went and did laundry then got diesel on the way back to camp. We got 11 mpg towing on the way home which is great!

We’re trying to figure out where to go to avoid Irene. We’re supposed to be heading up I-81 to Syracuse NY and the NY State Fair. I think we’ll be okay tomorrow with a stop at Marathon NY but Sunday is a little “iffy”. So far it doesn’t appear she’s going to go inland as far as Weedsport (our Sunday stop) but we’ll just have to keep an eye on the whole thing. Might end up just heading west to Ohio for a visit with Chip then hit NY on our way back.
