The Cross in the Woods-World's Largest Crucifix

Part of the 525 Nun Doll collection-largest in the US

We used Petoskey as our base and took several day trips.

In Charlevoix we visited Castle Farms, originally built in 1918 by the Vice-President of Sears as a model farm to showcase farm equipment sold by Sears at that time. In 2001 the farm was bought by a lady whose husband owns the largest Domino's Pizza franchise in the US. The buildings have been restored and are used for weddings and other events. The day we visited there was a huge arts and crafts show and two weddings.

In Indian River we visited the National Shrine of the Cross in the Woods. It is the largest crucifix in the world. The cross was cut from a single redwood tree and is 55 feet tall and 22 feet wide. The bronze figure of Christ is 28 feet tall and weighs 7 tons. Also on the grounds is a nun doll museum, the largest collection in the US.
