NED on Tour! 2011 travel blog

Sept 1......

Well after our costa coffee break......we headed to Barton Grange marina in our new little VW Golf....Barton Grange Marina is lovely with a fresh food market farm shop next door where we got a trolley and shopped for our canal adventure....got lots of yummy fresh foods, the tomatoes and strawberries taste fantastic...

We rang Andrea and George to let them know we were here and they opened the huge gates to the marina and introduced us to the lovely LILLIE boat,so so cute, just like Rosie and Jims boat(a Uk children's show done on a canal boat)

We loaded our gear on,shit I think we will sink! George looked worried ha ha...

He gave us a 30 minute run down and headed out of the marina into the Lancaster canal teaching David to steer, reverse, gears and tie off and moor the boat and finally turn the 44 foot boat....done! George got off at a bridge and we were on our own..sailing at 4mph up the canal.....I think David broke into a sweat when George jumped off! Ha ha

We travelled up the canal waving at people, saying hi bla bla all happy taking photos looking at the passing ducks and swans, farms, houses, fields and a bloody huge canal boat coming at us at the same time we were going under an old stone bridge!!!! Captain and crew jumped into action....Sailor Nicky on front with pole, sailor Ethan running up and down inside from back to front taking instructions...very loud instructions!! While Captain David crapped his pants!!the other boat Captain was shaking his head a lot! Saying something to us,that we couldn't understand, well I think we did but Capt Davy put it in reverse full throttle saving the day, except a small? Bump was heard .....oh well on the peaceful canal we sailed....it actually was beautiful,so green and lush and the bird life following our trail of bread crumbs in the water....

Inside was so cozy,we decided to stop for late lunch on the side of the canal and all jumped into action to moor the Lillie....we did very well.....we sat and had salad rolls and fruit on the side of the canal in our deck chairs...

We took off again like pro's....the bridges are lovely and so many gorgeous farms and homes on the canal....

We moored about at a place called Garstang,a small town where lots of canal boats moor....we chose a plAce away from others incase we hit anyone?

We had dinner chicken stir fry ponging the cabin ....walked to the pub on the bridge had a few drinks and walked back and fell asleep early...good day sailing......

Sept 2......

Woke late, very peaceful and the roll of the water when another canal boat went past was great....

We set sail and we really enjoyed the day, very cruisy and peaceful and relaxing, except the poor tree that had a major hair cut when I took control of the tiller...oops. After picking branches out of the front of the boat,Ethan had a little go and was much straighter then me!

Swans followed us today and loads of ducks flying in landing just behind us for bread.

An raaf jet went overhead and Ethan saw underneath the missiles.

Stopped lunch, moored like pro's and then decided to make a major turn at Galstade a small village near Lancaster to turn around to go back tomorrow. The turn went very well, reverse neutral forward reverse neutral...hit the statue thAgs in someone's garden on the canal....oop reverse quickly and get away fast!

Ha ha....off we trotted back into Galstade canal marina to moor and explore the village....posted a few cards, had a few drinks a the pub in the beautiful garden and went back to boat for a shower, interesting in such a tiny shower.....

Had dinner on boat, had a call from Jo in Wales, will see them next week... And back to pub now doing this journal care of their free wifi.....

Tomorrow we will head slowly back to Garstang for the night, loving the canal, very relaxing and peaceful.....

Xxx bye....

Still yet to load some photos, all cards are full! Bye xxxxxx
