After another session critiquing photos, we piled into vans for a short ride to Rockport. Our first stop was to see the Oreo cows, more properly known as the Belted Galloways at Aldermere Farm. This 136-acre farm is owned by Maine Coast Heritage Trust, a statewide land conservation organization dedicated to protecting the scenic beauty, outdoor recreational opportunities, ecological diversity, and working landscapes of the Maine coast. The Trust maintains Aldermere as a working farm and educational center, helping visitors deepen their appreciation for land conservation and sustainable agriculture. Unfortunately the visitor center was closed and the cows were not in a good mood. Perhaps the cloud of buzzing flies around their heads contributed to this. The signs advertising quarters of grass fed beef for sale, would not have cheered them up either.

We had lunch at an outdoor stand and could order anything on the menu. Road Scholar has been very generous at meal time We have eaten at a variety of local spots and had plenty of choices.Today lobster rolls and scallop baskets were popular. Then we went to the Rockport harbor where fishermen were unloading boats directly into refrigerated trucks under the watchful eye of the harbor police. When we compared their hauls to the bounty we saw when we were here three years ago, we understood why the captain looked like he was in a foul mood as well. His catch was unloaded in no time.

Our final stop was at the Maine Media Workshop, a school designed to offer short courses in various aspects of photography, film and multimedia. The school has been in existence for 39 years and is working on college certification. It has an extensive curriculum of short courses designed for artists who want to improve their skills and vacationers who want to improve theirs as well. The school has a shuttle bus from local inns and restaurants and offers full board on campus. During high season (summer) a staff of sixty instructors offers beginning and advanced instruction. This scenic area has been inspirational to us and the MMW is a spot we might want to revisit next time we're in a learning mood.

Our final dinner here was predictably and wonderfully a whole lobster dinner. There is nothing like the taste of a fresh Maine lobster. This one was served with chow-dah, corn on the cob, clams and blueberry pie. Here's hoping that there will be a few more such dinners in our future before we leave the coast.
