The Madventures of Brendan and Wendy travel blog

We arrived in Tallinn before lunch and quickly checked into our hostel before heading into the amazing old town for lunch. After lunch we wandered for a little while then tracked down a supermarket and a pharmacy as I was still sick. That night we discovered the amazing food in the Baltics before heading back to our sweat box of a hostel.

The 28th I realised I was still very unwell and our sweat box room with no fan and windows that didn't open was not helping. Eventually I managed to drag myself out for the walking tour and a bowl of soup before heading back to the sweat box for another rest. Our plan for that night had been to go up one of the old church towers to watch the sunset but I was still recovering from the walking tour.

The 29th we changed to a more comfortable hotel before going on a tour of the bastions and climbing part of the old city wall.

On the 30th we decided to check out Parnu, the summer capital. We jumped on a local bus and arrived just after lunch. I had booked us a room in a caravan park that was supposedly 15 minutes from the centre of town. After a 40+ minute trek with backpacks we found it in what appeared to be an industrial area. As everything else was booked out for summer we decided to stick it out and wandered back into town to take a look around. We spent the afternoon walking along the beach - it was definitely not swimming weather but the local Baltic population seemed to believe it was. After a couple of hours of walking we stopped to play some pitch and putt where I was able to prove to Brendan that I do have some hand eye coordination, letting him only win by 3 strokes. By the time we made it back to the camp site we were both completely exhausted - my chest infection was still hanging on and Brendan had started to get it.

The 31st was a complete fail. We had planned to go into town to do the walking tour but we were both unwell so spent most of the day hiding in our room with boxes of tissues and cough lollies. We eventually made it into town for some lunch and to grab some more suppies from the pharmacy.

August 1st we left Parnu (and Estonia) and made our way to Riga.
