|e arrived in Athens around lunch time and attempted to get out to the port to get the 3pm ferry to Santorini. Unfortunately we had another train misadventure and missed the ferry by 15 minutes. Luckily (kind of) there was another ferry leaving at 8pm. So we sat around Starbucks for 5 hours until we could board. As is normal in Greece, the ferry departed an hour late and because of our budget we did not have seats so we made ourselves a little hidey hole with our backpacks and slept on the floor in the 'bar lounge' until we arrived in Santorini at 5am...
The 14th we managed to get ourselves going by about 10am, despite arriving at our hotel at 6am. We walked to Perissa and enjoyed the warm water and black sand before getting the bus into Fira where we walked the 500+ stairs to get an amazing view from the caldera. After lunch we jumped on another bus out to Oia which is known for having some of the worlds best sunsets. After we wandered through the traditional streets we went back to Perissa where we had a cocktail by the beach and enjoyed a big seafood dinner.
The 15th we decided to head to Ios as Santorini was very quiet. We managed to get some of the last seats on the ferry and some amazing last minute accommodation. Because we were still recovering from our overnight ferry we spent the afternoon relaxing and wandering around the beach before having an early night.
The 16th til the 21st we spent on Ios. We were originally going to go to Paros however the ferries were booked out. We spent our days on the beach swimming and playing beach sports with a couple of German guys we met at our hotel. In the afternoons we went to a beach club and had a few drinks and a bit of a dance before dinner. Around midnight we all got the bus into town to enjoy Ios's famous nightlife and some of the best gyros we have ever had.
On the 21st we finally dragged ourselves from the islands and got the ferry back to Athens.
The 22nd we flew to Amsterdam.
