Bennington Vermont

Finding Moose

Old Bennington Church

Revolutionary War Memorial

While staying at Greenwood Lodge and Campground we took one day to rest and the second day to do some sightseeing in Bennington and Old Bennington.

Our first stop was the Bennington Museum. This museum houses a collection of Grandma Moses paintings that are a permanent collection. The also had a special exhibit of Folk Art comparing Grandma Moses' work to other folk artist. We enjoyed both exhibits. They also have a Wasp Martin Auto....one of only 20 made. For quilters....one other item in their permanent collection is the Dear Jane Quilt. Unfortunately it was not on display while we were there. They only display it from Labor Day to Columbus Day. I have seen a wonderful reproduction of this quilt and would have loved to have seen the original.

In 1777 there was a Battle of Bennington.....I don't remember the history of this battle but in 1977 this obelisk was erected as a memorial. You can purchase tickets and go up in the monument to view 3 states and the Green Mountains.

As I have mentioned before many communities have some item they display.....Louisville, KY horses, Cumming, GA eggs.....Bennington, VT....well its the moose! So I finally found me a moose.

Also in Bennington is the Bennington Pottery....we saw some of their pottery at the museum but did not get to there shop in Bennington....must save something for the next trip. We had a wonderful time in Bennington and the Green Mountains. We both would like to come back and explore some more.

Well its time to start traveling....south and west still!
