West Memphis, AR info

who says you can't step over the Mississippi

We arrived in West Memphis, AR this afternoon about 2PM. It's very hot and very muggy, by far the hottest day so far. We are in Tom Sawyer RV Park, and are parked right on the Mississippi River across from Memphis, TN. We drove into Memphis for dinner at the famous Rendezvous for ribs, and then walked around Beale Street, the jazz section of Memphis.

Last night for the first time either of us could remember, we slept with an air conditioner running. This morning at 6AM it was 80 degrees. The breeze picked up and I opened the windows. Scattered thunder storms are predicted for today. This RV park is really a bargain. $35 per night, right on the Mississippi, 50AMP full hook up, big rig friendly, and FREE LAUNDRY.

Today we began our (brief) search for Elvis with a Graceland tour. The home and grounds are truly beautiful. You've all heard that Elvis is making more money now, than when he was alive. It's easy to see why here, this place is commercialized to the max.

Then we went to lunch at Alcenia's, one of Diner, Drive-in, and Dives places. Soul food. Janet had fried chicken, green beans and yams, and I had fried catfish, green beans and mac/cheese. More than we could finish. The best green beans I've ever eaten by the way.

After lunch we went to Mud Island and found a real gem in a scale model of the Mississippi River from top to bottom. Please see the info board in the photos. This thing must have cost the city a fortune.

We then went to the Gibson Guitar Co. for a tour, but it was closed for a special event. Bummer!!

And the adventure continues,

Ken
