We left Williams Lake and headed south 280 miles to Bella Coola, a port town at the head of Burke Canal. We traveled the famous “Freedom Hill” a road with 18% grade that was constructed by the residents of the valley because the government did not want to make the investment. After setting up camp we went out and checked out the local bear watching spots. There were no crowds or bears. We found out that mid August is the best bear watching time. The Bella Coola Valley scenery is very nice. Looks like his will be an exploratory visit.
