Our first stop today was in Alliance, NE. Home of Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad, and Carhenge. We weren't able to stop at BNSF, but we did drive out to Carhenge. What a riot. Old cars positioned to look like Stonehenge. After a quick look around we took Hwy 2, known as the Sand Hill Byway, to North Platte.
North Platte is named after the river is sits next to. There has been a little flooding here lately, and we were not able to travel out to Buffalo Bills Ranch. Instead we drove out to the Gold Spike Tower for a panoramic view of the Bailey Yard. This is the Union Pacific yard where East meets West. 2850 acres streching out 8 miles, 10,000 cars are handled each day, 24/7, and over 350 miles of track.
And the adventure continues,
