We have made several early morning trips to Lamar Valley trying to locate animals. We have seen plenty of buffalo and also a bear each time that we have gone. The buffalo/bison aren't afraid of people cars or anything else. They will block the road until they are good and ready to move. One day we hiked to Grizzly Lake. It was beautiful with it's meadows and sloping inclines, the trail ends on a overlook of the lake. The trail was a switchback at certain points and also some wooded areas (for bears to hide in). Happy to report no bear sightings on the trail. Wednesday we went to Lamar Valley on our animal search and stopped at Roosevelt Lodge. It is a quaint log cabin type inn and restaurant. We treated ourselves to breakfast. Thursday, our last day before we move to Fishing Bridge inside of the Yellowstone Park we tried to locate a town names Jardine. It was supposed to be about seven miles out of Gardiner. If it wasn't just a few homes in a settlement type area we missed it. We didn't see any business's or signs of a actual town. The only time that we have seen elk is either at the motel in town or at the RV Park. Apparently they are only city slicker elk in Montana. We have already made plans for several hikes once we reach the Fishing Bridge Campgrounds. There is just so much we all want to do. Will keep you posted.
