High Street in Wells

Entrance to the Bishops Palace

The clock in the catherdral was over 500 years old

Hello from Wales, left Plymouth in the fog and light rain but arrived to clear day at amazingly beautiful village, Wells, that is dwarfed by HUGE Cathedral. Loved this quaint village especially the High street, so so pretty. We walked down to view Bishops Palace and Gardens complete with its own moat then entered HUGE Cathedral and joined 1 1/2 hr guided tour with John (about 70+) as our very informative and lovely guide (who went to same Uni as Paul in Adelaide for a Physics/Science project/lecturing contract for a few years!, before Paul but amazing ah!!!) OK WOW what an amazing, amazing Cathedral, full Gothic style built year 1175 with oh wow very interesting stone work including stunning carvings, architectural feats, beautiful detailed patterned painted ceilings, unique carved pulpit with coloured carved bible verse from Timothy, massive stained glass windows one with all of Jesse's Family called Jesse's window, and oh wow an incredible clock like no other that even shows the shape of the moon with moving models that make the chimes simply incredible. John was a wealth of knowledge and wish i could tell you more, we could of stayed for ages to see more but we had to get back to the car park before we got a ticket but we then drove on to Cheddar George!! Oh ooh what a special place, very popular with hikers and walkers, many caves and yes Cheddar Cheese. Thanks Beccy W for great itinerary, love it all!!!!
