Finally here in Idaho, sitting on my sister's deck, drinking coffee and looking at the beautiful lake and the awesome mountains and trying to catch up on my journal. Oh, the best laid plans of mice and men! When I decided to write my journal I thought we would most likely have wifi every night, however, we found the state & natl. forests so beautiful that we camped in them almost every night....which threw the wringer on my journal plans! State parks don't supply wifi!! So here I am on Friday morning catching up on my journal while Louie, Brad and Claude ( the neighbor) are out fishing on the lake.

DAY 3 found us just outside of Kansas City, Mo and the timing was perfect. We would be arriving in Kansas City just in time for a BBQ lunch at Jack Stack's. Jack Stack's is one of the many popular BBQ joints in Kansas City and we were looking forward to a great lunch! We arrived in Kansas City and I pulled out my trustee iphone and used my Around Me app to find the closest Jack Stack's. We ordered a great take out lunch which we ate in the bus, sitting in the shade of a big old cottonwood tree. My favorite were the Lamb Ribs! Wonderful! Messy! Different! We made pigs of ourselves and pushed off up US 29 towards Nebraska.

Originally, we were going to head up through Council Bluffs and drive the very scenic drive from Council Bluffs, Iowa to Sioux City. Thank god I called the Department of Transportation for both states before going because I 29 is closed from just north of Nebraska City to Sioux City. The road runs along the Missouri River and the damage from the earlier floods this year have left the roads and bridges impassable!

We changed our plans and crossed the Missouri in St. Joseph MO and followed Kansas 36 across the state. And of who knew??? Northern Kansas is marvelous!! Nothing like I had imagined Kansas to be! Rolling green hills and miles of road with not a soul on them! What a pleasant surprise! We traveled on the Pony Express trail and at numerous locations, out in the middle of the green fields we would see the statue of the Pony Express rider, galloping across the west. It really makes you think about how hard it must have been back then. And the saddle sores those poor guys must have gotten!

We enjoyed our drive in Kansas so much that we made a quick change of plans and decided to knock off early and camp at Lovewell State Park. The park is way out in the middle of nowhere, just south of the Nebraska state line. The main feature of the park is a huge reservoir. Just what we needed! A nice swim in the lake! We found ourselves a beautiful spot, hooked up to power and off we went to swim in the lake. Whoopee!! Spent a quiet night under the stars in Northern Kansas and then off to bed, looking forward to whatever Day 4 brought us.
