Last Friday we took an organised trip to a village outside of Buenos Aires. It is a ranch which is suposed to demonstrate the traditions of the Argentine people......
First of all I had to get up early get dressed and walk to the bus a WHOLE 15 min... Ok it was a grumpy grumpy morning. Once I steped my foot on the ranch I remebered it was winter here: the grass was yellow and ground almost frozen, naked trees and smell of cold mixed with... well farm smells.
In true Argentine manner there was not much organization during the course of the day. We wondered through the farm, ate empanadas (which pretend to be from here but I am convinced that ther are pirozhki in disguise
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pirozhki,http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Empanada), chorizo (not at all like mexican chorizo), found puppies (that we did not eat). It felt like being in a small vacation, running around pointlesely enjoing the view.
During the course of the day we were alowed to ride the horses as well. For the first time in my life I got on a hourse- seemed like a great idea at the time. The day after my rear coud not thank me enough. The gauchos showed me (sort of) how to operate and let go. My hourse thought it would be a great idea to gallop around with me on the back. Gauchos observed as I was trying to manage- it turns out my horse was Russian. It would calm down if I was speaking Russian with her and walk gallanlty with elegancy, not to mention comfort for the rider. Any other language resaulted in a simulation of a six flag ride. Best 40 min in Argentina!
As I mentioned earlier we snacked quite a bit in the duration of the day but we were also served lunch with potatoes carrots and cabbage salad as well as asada. Asada is a very traditional Argentine barbecue where whole parts of cow are grilled.
Carnivore's paradise. We had 3 vegeterians in our group. They were brought chicken. No comment.
A folk dance performance, a non violent horse taming show, an Indians and Cowboys show, more puppy petting, and to top it all of a piggy back ride for me finished off the day..
BARBARO!
