Today we took a side trip to the little town of Del Norte, CO. It has a population of about 1700 (as of 2000) and is the county seat of Rio Grande County. It was founded as a service center for the mining industry that was going on in the area. Now it is considered a gateway to activities such as hiking, biking, snowmobiling, fishing, skiing, backpacking and hunting.

Today, the town had a parade called Covered Wagon Days. In addition, the library had a book sale (paperbacks at 10 cents each and hardbacks at 25 cents each) and a BBQ put on by the Fire Department.

We also stopped at a fruit stand and picked up yellow watermelon, rocky ford cantalopes, and Olathe sweet corn. Good Eating!
