La Rochelle, France
Our stop today was in another small French seaside town… La Rochelle. I’m sure they are beginning to run together by now! About the only difference is how we get from the ship to the picturesque little city… sometimes we tender to shore, sometimes we catch the shuttle provided by the ship or, sometimes we catch a cab from the pier. Once there, we are seldom disappointed! While there are similarities… each has it’s own distinctive feel.
Today we took the shuttle bus a short 15 minutes to the middle of the old town… another very pretty place (La Rochelle is a thousand years old). As you can see from the photos, the “Old Port” is the money shot here. Everything is situated around this very neat harbor. All sides of the harbor are lined with outdoor cafes and small shops and all were full of people. Brenda reminded me that she read August is the month that most of France goes on vacation! If I were your travel agent, I’d send you to this beautiful part of France for sure… but I’d suggest you visit in the spring or fall.
The weather, while much warmer, continues to be outstanding. We enjoyed another lunch at one of those outdoor cafes I mentioned above. Today’s café was one Brenda had read about… and the food was excellent (Salade de Roquefort and frites)!
