Tuesday 8/2/11 Did Ya Peek?
This morning with the juvies back, Anita wanted to check out the ladies restroom to make sure it was ready to go: clean and supplied. Well, wouldn’t you know it the juvie girls tried to flush their feminine hygienic absorbent tubules down the commode and caused a minor issue. She was fit to be tied and put on her official Maryland State Park vest and marched determinedly up to “The Killing Fields” (that’s the large field across from us where the little darlings have their tents pitched) to seek out the counselor in charge of the wayward girls. After speaking with 2 counselors and getting passed around, she finally got to the right one and explained the issue. The counselor was very nice, apologized for the incident and said she would talk to the little law-breakers about the proper disposal of their hygienic rockets. My restroom, on the other hand, was completely straight and tidy. Anita asked why the boys’ restroom was always in better shape than the girls’ restroom and I said it was obvious-the boys can only use one hand to make a mess but the girls have both hands free to destroy the place!
After the restroom debacle, we went over to Mary Jo’s house so Anita could photograph her dog, Frosty. Frosty is aptly named because he is all white with coal black eyes. Mary Jo’s house is built on the side of the mountain and had a large patio in the back abutting a forest (the backside of Greenbrier State Park). Her house is very nice and she and husband own 14 acres across the street that includes a 100 yr old barn. What a great place to live! We saw hummingbirds at the feeder hanging next to the house. Anita got some great pictures of Frosty and I think Mary Jo will be pleased. Having completed the photo shoot, Mary Jo took us to lunch at the Red Byrd Restaurant in Boonsboro. It was a nice old diner kind of place with normal home cooking. The food was nice but not great and Mary Jo said it would so and told us not to look for a gourmet meal. She and Anita had a great time talking and laughing and when Anita excused herself to attend the ladies’ room, I told Mary Jo about Anita’s embarrassing trip to Pete and Shorty’s in Clearwater. This is when Anita went into the restroom and saw a Greek statue of a man wearing a fig leaf and when she lifted the fig leaf a bell sounded in the whole restaurant letting all the diners know that she “peeked”. When Anita came out of the restroom, she received applause form the dining room and this really reddened her face. Anita’s mom and I were rolling in laughter when she returned to the table. Mary Jo was also laughing at this story and asked Anita about it when came back to the table. Anita took more photos on our way back to camp and spent the evening editing the dog shots for Mary Jo. We are planning on visiting Harper’s Ferry tomorrow.
