Roseburg, OR (July 25)

This was an overnight stop at Rising River RV Park. We could have made it all the way to our next reservation point (a Thousand Trail park at Florence), but since my reservations there were not until the 26th we needed to spend one night somewhere else. So, Roseburg was the place, some 90 miles from Florence. We would have an easy drive the next day. The park was nice, but the voltage on the 50 amp was low and my regulator would not permit usage. The park host allowed me to run my cord over to the next site to see if that one would work. It did, and since no one was in that site they let me keep plugged in there and not have to move. Again, nice folks.

Florence, OR (July 26-28)

The Thousand Trails park here is South Jetty. The main attraction in this area are the sand dunes that run along the Pacific for almost 40 miles, and inland for several miles. The park is very close to these dunes, and you can hear the dune buggies in the distance running up and down the sand dunes.

We decided to take a dune buggy ride, but on a 20 passenger rig that took us on a one hour trip out across the sands, along the beach, and back. The huge sand dunes are something to behold, and if you didn’t know that the ocean was right there you would believe you were in a vast desert. It was a fun experience.

We also drove north of Florence, up 101, to see one of the several lighthouses along the Oregon coast. This one was Heceta Head Lighthouse. Very picturesque. Pretty drive with lots of seascape views along the way.

Old Town, Florence was an interesting place to see also. Many shops and galleries featuring local artisans and their works. We walked and looked and when we got tired and hungry we stopped in at the Bridgewater Fishhouse for an early dinner. Great seafood. We could get so used to this…
