From Pine Creek Motor Coach/RV Park – Walker, MN
At our last stop on the GRR trip………seems that we have been traveling this route for a long time in some instances, but then seems as if we just started! It has been almost four months and we have seen, done and stayed many places in this period of time. Today we were prepared to move a short 90 miles to our final destination………Stony Point Resort in Cass Lake, MN. We did just this but when we pulled into our site that had been assigned to us over five months ago………it was a NO GO!
First, we again like at the last stop were assigned a site just feet away from the showers and restrooms…..now I asked Rudy “what have we done to P _ _ S off these folks in Minnesota that we get these sites by the restrooms?” Ok restroom proximity one thing but when the level bubble on the rig is all the way to the rear end and the front jacks need to be extended to the max with the site sloping about 3 foot back to front we decided this site would not work. Also trees would make for a very precarious if at all satellite find for TV. Oh and the best yet, they were going to charge a fee per day for Cody......this was not stated when we made the reservation in March! Come on how can a dog we considered an EXTRA in your RV?????
Only took a short conversation between the two of us and we went to the office asking for them to cancel our reservation. They wanted to offer us another site but it did not have sewer so we politely declined and headed back about 20 miles to Walker where on the way we had seen a small RV Park on the main road through town. They had an opening for the week we needed - took it and really think we came out on the better end of that “stick” on this switch of parks……….much more to our liking; no seasonal sites, NOT up against a bathhouse, no trees for satellite interference and best of all a WHOLE LOT CHEAPER!!
Today was also the day we had planned to meet Lindsay and Jerry again to go out to dinner and celebrate Rudy and Lindsay’s birthdays……Rudy today and Lindsay on Thursday. So once we set up and got ready we drove just a couple of miles to the park they have been staying in since the first of July and enjoyed once again a nice visit with them before going to dinner and enjoying the birthday celebrations. We are hoping that we will be able to get together a final time before they leave the area on Sunday.
As I opened this post, we will be wrapping up our Great River Road trip here in Walker………..the headwaters of this mighty river we have been following are just a few miles from our location. We may also see just a few other POIs (points of interest) while here but for sure it is those “headwaters” that will bring this trip full circle……….and they should be forthcoming real soon!
