2011 Summer Trip
Jul 25, 2011
| June 11: We Began our 2011 RV Summer trip on June 11th. We departed PebbleCreek and headed for Yuma, AZ to have the RV prepared for the summer. A full hand wash and wax job was done at the park. We visited Algodones, Mexico where Gail purchased a new pair of glasses and filled her medicine cabinet for the summer. We stayed there for three nights.
June 14: We departed Yuma and headed for Alpine, CA on the 14th of June. We stayed at the Viejo Casino RV lot for one night.
This place was expensive and we were in a pasture. Not a good place. We should have dry camped in the Casino parking lot.
June 15: We arrived at the Oceanside Elks parking lot about mid afternoon on June 15th. We had a good restful time there. We visited the beach local area and the Harrah's Casino about 30 miles away up in the mountains.
I had a Senior Moment and failed to talk about a couple of real fun visits while in Oceanside. First, we celebrated Fathers Day with our daughter, Teresa, and very good friends who we worked with in Guaymas, Mexico, during the 1960's, Norm and Ann Hannon. Ann hosted a wonderful lunch at her home in Carlsbad. Also included in this lunch was Woody Ekstrom who, along with Ann, we had many fun years attending Jazz Festivals in Mammoth Lakes, San Diego, and Sun Vally, Utah. We also had a great visit and BBQ with our son, Jay, and his friend, Teri Kauffman.
June 23: We departed Oceanside on June 23 and travelled to Helendale, CA where we camped at Silver Lakes Campground. There we visited we very good friends, Bud and Linda McPartland. Teresa and Jay came to visit with us on separate occasions. Our four days there were very full.
June 27: It was time for us to take it easy, so we headed for Bishop, CA in the Sierra Nevada Mountains at about 7000 feet elevation. We stayed there for three days departing on June 28th for Reno, NV.
June 29: We arrived Reno on June 29th and stayed for four nights. Did a lot of casino stuff and eating out. Had a good time and got really rested up.
July 3: Our destination is Redmond, OR where we will attend the five day Good Sam RV Rally, but it is too far for a one day drive so we had planned stops included in our trip. Our first stop on the way to Redmond was Klamath Falls, OR where we spent three nights in a rather old RV park. We took care of grocery shopping and did some site seeing.
July 6: Our next stop was at Cascade Meadows RV Resort in La Pine, OR where we stayed for seven nights. Nice park. We did a lot of driving around and went into the mountains (over 7000 feet) to visit some places where Gail camped with her family when she was a young child.
July 13: Our next stop was the Redmond Rally. Had a great time. Got my tow bar rebuilt (for free) by the manufacturer. That was a real plus. We met one of Gail's classmates from Tillamook for lunch. They own a farm outside Redmond. The entertainment at the rally was wonderful. On Friday night we saw Bobby Vinton and the next night we saw Vince Gill. Both are great entertainers. Lots or RV stuff for sale by over 500 vendors. I also had a mobile service unit do an oil change and a Transmission fluid change on the RV there.
July 18: Our next stop was the Elks Lodge in Springfield, OR. where we spent four nights with wonderful, friendly people. Visited the University of Oregon campus in Eugene. Really spread out. Ate dinner in the Lodge twice. Great (and inexpensive) meals both times. We departed Springfield on July 21.
July 21: Arrived Osprey Point RV Resort where we'll spend the next seven nights.
Gail caught up on the laundry and I did a good clean-up of the car. Went to Coos Bay to shop with a short stop at the local casino. No luck with the slots.
